I belong to the Music City Modern Quilt Guild. A few meetings back we had a how to sew hexagons workshop. We were all making a preplanned project. As usual, I had my own ideas. After finishing the Jolene quilt top, I wanted to take a break from handwork. I’m away from my sewing machineContinue reading “Quilting While Away”

Quiltin’ Time
I have finally finished my Jolene quilt top. It’s ready to be quilted. I’m a little nervous about how I’m going to quilt it. Sometimes making things can be scary. I think I’m going to do a simple diagonal grid. Hopefully I can finish it in time to enter it into the Tennessee State Fair.
Border for Dolly
Finished the vine border on one side. Here is a little detail. One more vine to go.
She’s Getting There
I’ve finished the machine piecing. Dolly will fit over a queen size bed. I’m almost finished with the hand appliqué. All the letters, vines, flowers and leaves have been appliquéd with a variegated thread. I like how it looks if you look closely at the stitches. After I finish the vines and flowers, I willContinue reading “She’s Getting There”
TEXT
Finished the text today. Not sure if I should use punctuation. I may try one more nose. I still need to figure out a border. It needs a border so it can fit over a queen size bed.
Hand Appliqué Takes a Long Time
I haven’t stopped blogging about my quilts. Hand appliqué takes a long time. I also had to do the nose three or four times. I think I’m finally good on the nose. I have one more row of words, and then a border. I might appliqué vines and flowers into the border. I’m not sure.Continue reading “Hand Appliqué Takes a Long Time”
Jolene Has Me Worried
My first portrait quilt. If you can’t tell, it’s Dolly Parton. I bought a book on how to sew portrait quilts. I borrowed a projector from a friend, and started to make my pattern. I was going to make it with all the shadows like the instruction talked about. I got all the pieces cutContinue reading “Jolene Has Me Worried”
Delivery
This morning I brought the “Love” quilt over to it’s new home. I feel like it is a living thing that is joining a new family. As I look at these pictures, I feel a little teary, happy teary. My family went with me this morning. Jonathan, Leslie’s husband, is an excellent cook. He madeContinue reading “Delivery”
LOVE
I finished this one today. A quilt becomes a part of you when you working on it. The front side is a narrative about Leslie. She is in a magic garden with her cat. It’s a garden where love grows. Her house is on the back of the quilt. She lives there with her family.Continue reading “LOVE”
How to Put the Quilt Together
I haven’t posted on the blog lately. I’ve been busy with holiday stuff, and neither of the two projects I’m working on, are ready for sharing. I’m sharing this image because I’ve had a few friends interested in seeing how the quilt comes together. The timing has been off to show them in person. BeforeContinue reading “How to Put the Quilt Together”
